Environmental Writing Job: OWAA Executive Director

I have fond, fond memories of attending conferences organized by the Outdoor Writers Association of America, which is effectively the professional association for hunting and fishing journalists, plus a smattering of those who write about travel and related activities. The group seeks a new executive director. I hate to post the entire description word for word, but it’s not available on their website anywhere. So here goes:

The Online Community Organizer will develop strategies and projects to build a strong online community across a national network of organizations working to prevent childhood obesity. The Online Community Organizer is responsible for facilitating the development of emerging online projects supporting the community and providing instructional technology support through online coaching and training.

Yes, the subject area is a little outside the norm for this blog, but I’m on Green Media Toolshed‘s board so I’m eager to help them find the right candidate. Do your part, help spread the word! :-)

Environmental Poll Collection — Is it the World’s Largest?

Yours Free: Hundreds of environmental polls, thousands of questions, millions of answers, limitless insight

Over the 3+ years that I have written this blog, I’ve made a number of passing references to my online environmental poll and survey collection. It’s packed with more than 700 polls, surveys, focus group reports, and other market and social research studies, and it’s still growing. Today, I just want to remind you that this resource is there for you to use for free.

Environmental Poll Collection

Regular readers know I have been collecting and analyzing environmental polls, surveys, focus group reports, and related materials for many years. They are the intellectual foundation for my techniques and services, such as the environmental message method and the Due Diligence Test Panel. I believe it is the largest collection of it’s type in the world. I have samples form almost every U.S. state. Some of the studies date as far back as 1994.

The database is powered by the the Delicious “social bookmarking system.” The database is basically links to the documents hosted by the organization that commissioned the research. You can search the collection by title, date, topic, location, research firm, and many other other criteria.

I’ve used the collection in any number of ways, and you have a standing invitation to use it the same way — or any other way you choose:

  • Conducting literature reviews prior to launching your own environmental poll
  • Conducting literature reviews as supplement to or in lieu of conducting your own environmental poll
  • Comparing environmental attitudes and opinions in different locations, or at different times
  • Comparing attitudes and opinions about various conservation topics
  • Comparing attitudes and opinions among people from different walks of life

The research in this database cost many millions of dollars to conduct, but the sponsors elected to make their findings available to all, for free. So it’s only fair that this database of their work be available to all, for free, too.
