The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection hires Water Words That Work LLC each year to do a training for their incoming Americorps volunteers. We look foward to warp… er… brainwashing… er… helping these young conservationists get a good start on their careers! This year, the department held a contest, inviting participants to create fliers to recruit next year’s class. Then the DEP staff evaluated the posters for compliance with the Environmental Message Method!
Let’s see how they did:
- Step 1: Begin with Behavior. Check! The call to action is to become a watershed ambassador.
- Step 2: Foolproof Photos. Check! Lots of smiling ambassadors making a difference and looking like they are having fun doing it.
- Step 3: Swap the Shoptalk. Well, they’re using the dreaded “Watershed” word but they aren’t at liberty to change it, so I’ll let it slide…
- Step 4: Insert the Words That Work. Check! The poster hammers the point about “making a difference!”
Congratulations!
