Cute! No Question About It

Environmental communications effort
J.W. at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency circulated some startling information about how significant dog doo can be as a source of water pollution. Among the pile of facts and statistics, this very cute sign from North Vancouver. It’s not laugh-out-loud funny, but it gets your attention and is memorable. I like it!

Eric, Thanks for getting the word out via blog! Pet wast is a significant source of bacterial pollution that has a bad effect on the water quality in the streams, rivers and bays near you. Since POOP HAPPENS, DEAL WITH IT ! ! ! Scoop the poop to help improve water quality.

Great sign, Eric. So glad you are doing this blog.
Can you provide a link so that we can learn about “some startling information about how significant dog doo can be as a source of water pollution” please?

    3. Ditto to both of the above posters! Since we have a recreational trail in town that runs right along our local river, I’d love more info on the dog waste stats! Might be good to start doing some bacteria sampling along the trail, one spot above our wastewater treatment facility and another downstream from it. Thanks!

Thanks for the doggie doo sign. I blew it up to a large size, printed it in full color and posted it on the bulletin board here at work.

See pages Pages 23 and 24 are the Severn River source for dog waste contamination to the river

See Page 22 is the source for the data on the South River for dog waste contamination to the river

Note, you should be able to find TMDL through your state Department of Environment – there you will find the data on sources (like dog waste) of pollution to a given tributary
