Clever vs. Effective, Take II

environmental communicationAs long as we’re on the subject of clever vs. effective, what do you think of this sign that appeared on Jim Bruggers’ Kentuckiana Green blog? It’s certainly clever — but you have to read the rest of Jim’s post to see if it actually works to deter the unwanted behavior. Here’s the point I raise in my workshops again and again:

Clever, cute, and funny may be effective, and may not be. When in doubt, it is better to be clear.
