Hey, here’s a very funny sign that appeared on the “Fail” Blog. I guess that blogger thinks it doesn’t work. I’m not sure I agree.
I often advise my clients that just because something is cool, humorous, or attention getting, that doesn’t mean that it actually works. Which is not to say that cool, humorous, and attention getting is automatically a problem.
So what do you think? Does this sign work?
P.S. Sorry I haven’t been blogging much lately. I am managing a team of 4 bloggers right now for some clients right now. I have got my hands full!
Thanks to J.B. for sending this my way!

This totally works.
Completely works for me! Kind of like the bear differentiation sign (bells in the scat). Plus, if it’s not what people expect to see, they may actually take time to read it…laugh…and think twice about dropping that butt.
And welcome back — even sporadically!
Love it, but tough to say whether it works. Probably helps as a friendly reminder, especially if there is a suitable “butt” receptacle nearby.
This is brilliant!
I think it’s funny in a British humor sort of way. But I’m not sure it’s effective with smokers – I wonder if the message and visual was tested. If the sign had an illustration of a fish smoking it might be more eye-catching.
Win. Definite win.
Add an ash tray and I’d say it is a winner.
It absolutely works ~ attention-getting without being dogmatic, it raises the issue (“don’t litter with your butts”) in a manner people won’t overlook or (if you’re a smoker) be put off by.
I think this is so funny, but I wonder if would get a smoker to stop leaving their butts on the ground. Not sure.
Totally love it–the sign that is! It creates a funny visual that remains connected to ditching butts streamside.
If you need guest bloggers to “carry” you through until you get back your time, I’m happy to pitch in; I’m blogging too now http://www.nycwatershed.blogspot.com and I understand the time commitment
.
Well, it does say WIN which means failblog thinks it is awesome, but it is still going to be a FAIL in a lot of people’s minds because it uses Papyrus…
If it even reaches one person (or most likely, their child), then it’s effective. For the rest of us, it injects some humor into our sometimes otherwise sterile lives.
Here’s another story about signs that attempt to keep people out of the fountains on Louisville’s waterfront. http://blogs.courier-journal.com/watchdogearth/2010/05/27/louisville-waterfront-park-swimming/
